  • Wattsmart Drive is for Utah EV drivers: Rocky Mountain Power can pause your charging for up to 5 minutes at a time during high-demand events, with advance notice.
  • You get two penalty-free opt-outs per program season; each additional opt-out takes $10 off that year’s credit.
  • Credits are paid once a year, typically on the August or September bill, and only some vehicle makes are eligible (the program lists Audi, Chrysler, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Polestar, Tesla and Volkswagen).
  • Rocky Mountain Power’s current Utah charger incentive tariff lists Level 2 charger incentives for non-residential and multi-family sites only.

Permits

Salt Lake City Building Services issues electrical permits inside city limits (SLC building permits). The FY2027 Consolidated Fee Schedule lists a $59 base fee for a residential electrical permit, $40 for a minor remodel and additional circuits, $40 for a service change or alteration, and $48 for a homeowner electrical remodel permit (SLC fee schedule). Suburbs such as Sandy, West Valley City and unincorporated Salt Lake County run their own permit offices.

Not yet verified:
  • Whether an EV charger permit also needs plan review (billed at $146 an hour in the same fee schedule) was not confirmed with the city.
  • Rocky Mountain Power’s tariff shows no residential charger rebate; we could not find a current Utah state rebate for home chargers either.
  • Only two installers with published Salt Lake prices were found; Elite Electric’s figures were stated as checked October 30, 2026.
  • Installer response testing (who replies to quote requests) has not been done yet.
  • Installers report the federal 30C charger tax credit ended June 30, 2026; we have not verified this with the IRS.
