EV charger installation cost in Tampa, 2026
Tampa Bay installers who publish prices quote $600 to $1,400 for a straightforward Level 2 install with labor, materials and permit, plus the charger; most single-family homes land around $1,200 to $1,800 without a panel upgrade. The City of Tampa’s general residential electrical permit is listed at $120 plus a 2.5% state surcharge. Tampa Electric (TECO) has no home charger rebate, but its Prime Time Plus program pays monthly bill credits for enrolling a hardwired Level 2 charger.

- Some addresses in Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties are served by other utilities. Check who bills you before counting on any TECO program.
Permits
Inside city limits, a new EV circuit needs a City of Tampa residential electrical permit, which has no plan review and ends with an electrical final inspection (City of Tampa residential electrical permits). The city’s trade permit fee schedule lists $120 for general electrical work on one- and two-family homes, plus the Florida Building Permit Surcharge of 2.5% of permit value with a $4 minimum (City of Tampa trade permit fees). Homes in unincorporated Hillsborough County get permits from the county instead.
- The City of Tampa fee schedule we found was last updated in February 2023; the current fee was not confirmed with the city.
- Hillsborough County permit fees for homes outside city limits are not covered here.
- The Prime Time Plus credit for enrolling only an EV charger was not published; the $360 a year figure covers four devices together.
- Installer response testing (who replies to quote requests) has not been done yet.
- Tampa installers say the federal 30C charger tax credit rules have changed and should be checked; we have not verified current eligibility with the IRS.
